introduction
Welcome to Remote Imaging in West Sussex.
An amateur non commercial weather satellite receiving station in Steyning West Sussex UK. This website is dedicated to displaying images from weather satellites.
Site is hosted by Webfusion and maintained by Mike Jupp.

The satellite images
All satellite images are now derived from the EUMETCast data via EUROBIRD 9. The MSG page has images from METEOSAT, METOP-A and NOAA's 17/18
These images are very large, typical 1.2/1.5Mbs.
A typical METOP-A image is to the right, click for full image.

Station equipment

MSG is received with a EUMETCast system comprising of a standard 85cms offset dish/LNB, Skystar PCI card, AMD 3000XP pc with 1Gb of ram, running a 83Mb Ramdisk.
A sperate networked pc runs David Taylor's MSG Data Manager, METOP Manager, AVHRR Manager, MSG Animator, GEOSatSignal and HRPTReader to produce the images.

A license is required to receive the data, which is free but a fee of 100 Euros is payable for the Tellique software and USB Etoken. The fee is well worth it as the data available is vast and spectacular. A registration doc can be found here.

weather station
Now have my Davis Vantage Pro Plus weather station hooked up to the internet. It is set to refresh the website data every 30 minutes and should be online 24hours a day. Please do not rely on the weather information for scientific purposes, although it should give a fair indication of the weather here in Steyning. The station has all the usual sensors including sunshine and UV capability. The station also produces NOAA daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports. Station time is set to GMT/UTC so will differ local UK summer time by -1 hour.
